As always, the weekend with Denise Little was a blast. That woman is so much fun, and on the drive back to Portland she explained her Chaos Field to me, Dayle and

Chaos Field...sounds like something Joe would say Zoë has.

Got Chapter Four posted to Grimoire. Coming along nicely. Gotten some interesting feedback. I've been working on the Character information when I can, but I want to have at least Dags, Maureen and Alice finished before I start adding them to the site.
So far so good with the Shadowrun novel. Interesting things at Catalyst. Interesting things.

Was a pretty calm weekend, and I think I am like 1 of 6 people having to work on MLK in GA. Science Guy is in Baltimore where it is apparently snowing. And he loves to text message me and tell me how purdy it is. Meh.
I got a most excellent email and phone message from my agent. We're about ready to send my YA out with just a few more tweaks. Need to come up with a common title though. Like with Zoë all the books say A Zoë Martinique Investigation. So I'm thinking on that.
Chapter 3 of Grimoire is posted. This piece will hopefully finish before Feb. 9 so I can get the next book posted. All of these have to be finished before PHANTASM is released. Trust me, any reader is going to appreciate this story prior to book III. Yowzah.
Triptych is back up on the block as of tonight. Taking a break in the middle of a first draft is not something I recommend. Sort of slows the pace. But PHANTASM had to be edited and sent back. So out of a 100,000 words I paused (notice I said paused and not stopped) at 45,000. This was actually fortuitous because I'd done my little wacky process thing where I started with a plot, it went organic and crap...I figured out the story and needed to start over. Bah!
After TRIPTYCH comes STRANGE BEHAVIOR (working title), my first venture into Vampire fiction. Yay! And then it's back to Zoë for book IV, no working title yet.

Due to the fact that PHANTASM HAS TO BE COMPLETELY IN NY BY FRIDAY, I will be incommunicado until after the weekend.
Anyone else doing this? I am. I have to. I need to lose weight REAL bad. Not only the weight thing but to get healthier. Sitting in front of computer screen both during the day and then again all night—makes for large thighs!
In doing so, I figured the first thing to change was to buy healthy food. Cutting out the BIG FIVE:
I did. Today. Got sticker shock. Had to go to the bar and order up a Wheat Grass shot. Then I had to get a coke to get that nasty taste out of my mouth... bleargle.

1. HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) This shit is in EVERYTHING!
2. Hydrogenated Anything. Read labels.
3. Enriched & bleached flour.
4. Salt/sodium

Figured I'd update my life here and elsewhere as I am about to be swallowed:
1. Yay... robber is caught.
2. I'm behind badly on Triptych.
3. Should be getting Jpg on PHANTASM this week.
4. PHANTASM is going straight to CEM due to time (and the jack-ass robber who stole my work and cut out a month of work) which means I'll be working on it over the holidays.
5. I'm working on getting the PDF up for HOLLY & IVY for free download—I just have to get the printed version from the printer first. I'm also working on getting eReader versions of the PDFs done, but it's taking me longer than I anticipated.
Longer because being a single parent as well as taking on a full time job have seriously cut into any free time.

YES! They did it! The North Precinct RAWKS!
Science Guy got a call from the Detective handling our burglary from August—they'd made an arrest and found some of our stuff in his house. Since he's in Baltimore, I dropped everything and headed over to the North Precinct. First thing I saw was the camcorder and I lost it. This is an old piece of equipment they don't make anymore—and our daughter's first years are recorded on that type of tape. We had to have that model in order to transfer those films onto DVD. We were sooo happy to see that.
I also recovered my passport (which still has to go back to the state department because I reported it stolen), credit cards, bank statements, social security statements, Science's Guy's social security card, the camera (no cables), my Zire (no cables), three of my dolls including my Franklin Mint SPOCK doll!!
As for the DVDs and the computers and my CDs of backups—those are long gone. The detectives said they were on Craig's list at one point—hopefully they'll have more info soon. And luckily we haven't been fully compensated from State Farm yet either.
It's very RARE this sort of things happen. But the detectives at the Atlanta North Precinct have my awe and respect!

The soiree at the Phoenix&Dragon was really fun.
evilboyrobin were there
doorslam . But I'm not sure what was harder—keeping a straight face as someone is talking to me about astral projection while
evilboyrobin is just behind them taking pictures and then making "ew" faces at the pictures—OR—squelching the urge to throw candy at
evilboyrobin because he's making "ew" faces at my rather portly visage.

Reminder that I'll be at the Phoenix & Dragon Metaphysical bookstore tomorrow, December 6th, between 2:00 and 4:00, signing books and giving away copies of HOLLY & IVY.
Stop by! Don't leave me there to the tune of crickets!
Stop by! Don't leave me there to the tune of crickets!
Okay. Update before I blather:
Got a call a month or so back from the owner of the Phoenix & Dragon bookstore over on Roswell Road. I'd used the store for a scene in SPECTRE and one of the employees there showed the book to the owner, Candace Apple. Candace called me to invite me to be there for their Celestial Soiree on December 6th. The Soiree is from 12:00 to 4:30 and I'll be there between 2:00 and 4:00 with books in tow.
Candace also shared with me several ghost stories about the place, including the fact they have a mysterious hole in the basement and no one can figure out why. I decided then I wanted to write up a ghost Christmas story with Zoë and use the P&D as the setting. I also got the fabulous idea to get this printed up into a booklet and give it away free at the soiree—sort of a little promotion for myself and Candace. Just another little piece of the Zoë universe.
Candace looked over it today, I made a few changes and it's been sent to the printer. Now it's up to him to get this sucker done in time. Yikes! We've also made tentative plans for me to do an official book-signing in January. Hopefully the first part of EQUINOX will be up on the website by then.
So...I'm getting a little excited. Need to get some table decoration put together too—for books. A basket for the booklets. Chocolates. Mmm. I uploaded the PDF of the Christmas Story to my Yahoo group, The Abysmal Plane as a freebie there. Next up for the group is Zoë and Rhonda's first meeting. Touchy!
Oh, and I got OUT OF THE DARK back up on the website as a full PDF.
Now... if the editor for the book I've been working on would answer my questions...I'd finish that. Okay...back to Shadowrun..

Okay. Uhm. That was unexpected.
One of the authors I admire more than most is Sherrilyn Kenyon, who I once heard on a panel insist she didn't critique other writers. That it wasn't her place to judge. I agree with her, which is why I never write up reviews of books I don't like or do like. Who has time? If I'm not dealing with day-job, child, house or dinner, I'm writing.
Oh...sleep? That's a luxury.
Movies? Another ball-game. Mainly because movies are director interpretations of the script or book. Not always the writer's visual.
I have read Twilight and I was pleased when I learned Pattison was playing Edward. I fell for his cuteness when I first saw him in The Ring of the Nibelungs, based on the incredible Nibelungenlied (I'm a huge fan of the Siegfried tale). This was before I saw Goblet of Fire and went "Hey...I've seen Cedric Diggory before!"
Not to mention if you have Goblet of Fire and take a look at the extras, Mr. Pattison gives you a very cool tour of a day of filming for him on the Harry Potter set. He seemed very personable and it was one of my favorite extras to watch (before my DVD was stolen, that is).
Being a writer—I felt a wee bit of angst at seeing a work in print translate to the big screen. I'm a huge fan of The Dresdan Files (which my editor told me to read before she was my editor and she was right) and I knew that was going to be hard to translate into film—especially Bob. I mean...it's a talking head. I think they did their best, and I will always think if they'd aired Storm Front first and kept the level of special effects—the show might have continued.
Ah...but I'm not a TV exec.
I took a friend who'd never read the books. And I must say—we both enjoyed the film. I went in cringing and came out nodding. We both did. They got Edward's eyes right, the awkward moments, Edward's apparent revulsion to Bella in the beginning. I will say the Special Effects were a bit...well...eh. I do give it kudos on the Vampire Baseball Game. I could not wrap my head around it in the book, but I caught myself smiling and laughing during the movie.
Jury's still out on the sparkling skin...it wasn't overdone...and it did give him that almost unearthly quality. Dunno yet. I might have to see it again.
For an interpretation—I say good job. There were a lot of elements kept in. Oh, like that really great visual when Edward caught the apple? Hello? Front cover? And lines like "The lion fell in love with the lamb," were kept in.

I give it a b+, and that's because of the special effects. As for the story, this is the way I like Bella and Edward.

Bumped TRIPTYCH up to 40,000 words. Yay! Pulled A DISTANT THUNDER out again and wrote another chapter, bringing that thing up to 23,000 words. Wrote 2,000 words or so on the first installment of EQUINOX, which I'm calling MINISTERING ANGELS. More on that later.
Went to Medieval Times with friend Saturday night, it was EvilboyRobin's birthday!
Of the six of us, Ken was the only one who hadn't been before. We took mini-me there for her 5th birthday—and of course she wants to go back!
We were seated in The Black & White Knight section, and though he didn't win, the most entertaining part of the show was when the server asked Ken "White or pink?"
He was asking him what color candle for his cake!
I think it was where we sat, but I enjoyed it a lot more than the first time. We were on the side, just about dead center this time, and on our first visit it was at the opposite end of the King and Princess. We could see more this time.
Either way—I'm a big fan of the place. I just can't afford it on a regular basis!
Then me and mini-me spent the day with Lyn and her son at Rock City in Tennessee on Sunday. That was THE most beautiful day—the leaves, the cold, the breeze. What a gorgeous place! I loved it! See pick before for beautiful leaf reference.
We knew we needed to get up north soon. This has been the most beautiful fall coloring I've ever seen. Seriously. I don't know if it's because I no longer work in office parks but in a neighborhood so I see trees all the time—or it's just THAT beautiful.

It's no secret—well—at least not to me—that I'm a fan of NCIS. Abby is my favorite character—and if you pay attention—you'll see a very familiar similarity between she and one of my own characters.
Anyhoo...
I have always loved Abby's keyboard. But I could never afford one—and for a long time the only way to get them was in PS/2 connection. I needed USB. And then when they were available they were more than I wanted to pay.
Not anymore! And I could justify it. I write a lot in the early mornings. And I don't always turn on the lights (since it's just me and mini-me, she sleeps with me now) but I needed to see the keyboard.

So...Poof! I have an Illuminated keyboard!!
